World Voice Day Celebrations

The current set of workshops  is included in a sequence of initiatives spread over a one week period (11.04 – 16.03), related to the World Day celebrations, put together by CPC & CIELA, of the Portuguese Department.

The current proposal refers specifically to the voice preparation and enunciation techniques for teachers, L2 speakers (and advanced learners of Portuguese).

The instructor of the workshops is Carlos Antunes, drama teacher, actor and theatre producer at Escola Profissional de Teatro, Cascais, Portugal.

1.      Date:  11.04.2019                                      

Time: 2:30pm – 5:30pm 

Title: Communicate a text before an audience   

Basics on speech and diction. General principles in the communication of a text. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Bring a little text in prose: a news or a little literary prose. The text may be stored or can simply be read. Each participant will communicate their text to the audience. In a practical way, we are observing the fundamental principles of public communication.

Title: Creativity and verbal expression     

In a practical, playful and creative way, we will explore the relationship between form and content in oral communication. We will use the contemporary Viewpoints technique from the vocal point of view to research the importance of being conscious in verbal communication. We will observe according to the relation with space and time, decomposed in certain perspectives such as Speed, Duration, Kinesthetic Response, Form, Gesture, relation with Architecture, Tone, Dynamics, Acceleration / deceleration, Timbre and Silence.

Title: How teachers can prepare and use their voice to communicate more efficiently during class 

Basics on voice care. Techniques for preparation of voice use for long public (and classroom setting) uses.  Speech and diction. Verbal and non-verbal communication.
